Diabetes UK is the UK’s leading charitable funder of diabetes research. They improve lives through pioneering research into all forms
of diabetes and diabetes-related complications. The work they support
helps them understand the causes of diabetes, bring about life-changing
breakthroughs in care, treatment and prevention and bring them closer to a cure. In 2014 they invested £7 million in diabetes research and agreed to support 31 new studies. If you would like to find out more about the kind of research they fund, please click here:

In addition to the research undertaken, Diabetes UK also provide the following:
Care Events - For over 65 years Diabetes UK has been providing people living with diabetes unique opportunities to share and learn from each other in a relaxed and safe environment on their Care Events. These are run throughout the year, all across the UK and are aimed at Children, Young People, Adults and Families living with diabetes. Roadshows - The roadshows help people find out their risk of Type 2 diabetes, and provide information on eating well and being active for people at risk and also those living with the condition. The roadshows travel across the UK throughout the year, helping to increase understanding of the risk factors and symptoms of Type 2 diabetes. Living with Diabetes days - These are free education days held across the UK for people newly diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and those who have little knowledge of how to manage the condition. Advocacy - The Diabetes UK advocacy service is there for all people with diabetes, their family, friends and carers to help with issues connected to diabetes. They give people the information and support they need to make sure they know their rights, understand their options and help them get their voice heard. Campaigns - They campaign with and for people with diabetes to ensure that everyone affected by the condition gets access to the best treatment and standards of care. This is every person’s right, irrespective of their age, ethnic group, postcode, or type of diabetes. They lobby and brief key policy and government representatives and
influential bodies across the UK. They alert them to shortcomings in diabetes care, and urge them to make the necessary improvements in the commissioning and provision of diabetes care and treatment.
I hope this gives you a good idea of how the money you raise will help. If you would like to find out more please visit www.diabetes.org.uk
