Mark and I will trek 26 miles crossing into MOD land,over the high chalk downs and ridgeways of Wiltshire and Salisbury Plain. Starting at the ancient stones of Stonehenge and completing our trek at Avebury our route takes in the highest point in Wiltshire (295m) and goes through the most active crop circle area in the world.

This will be challenging for both of us who love the beautiful countryside in Wiltshire but rarely get the time to explore it! Training for this challenge will change that :-)

Although we both want to do this as a personal challenge our ultimate reason is in memory of a friend Julie Martin, founder of the charity Out of Afrika. Julie sadly passed away this year after a short illness, having done amazing work and changing many lives in Kenya by promoting education and long term self-sufficiency of orphans and disadvantaged children.

I was fortunate to have spent time in Kenya as a volunteer for Out of Afrika witnessing the child sponsorship program, ICT College and the fire training project amongst other projects. Julie was a lovely friend and she inspired me with her enthusiasm for the charity and encouraged me to go Kenya. I owe a lot to Julie for this life changing experience. Mark also had the chance to meet some of the children on our honeymoon in 2009.  

Julie was a wonderful lady and it is really important to us that Out of Afrika continues in her memory.

All sponsorship money raised will  help fund the construction of vocational training workshops in Julie’s memory, something which she had planned to do. The workshops will be used for training in carpentry, tailoring, plumbing, electrical and motor vehicle courses.
