I love cycling, I hate cancer. Always have, always will !!!

In 2012, I rode thousands of miles on my bike including 'London to Manchester' and 'London to Paris in 24 hours' raising thousands of pounds for great charities concerning autism and cerebral palsy. I loved it !!!

In 2012, I also got diagnosed with secondary cancer. I had nine weeks of intensive chemotherapy, spent an awful lot of time having drugs injected (not performance enhancing !!), and an awful lot of time on cancer wards. And I use the word ‘awful’ in its exact context, it was awful. I hated it.

I’m one of lucky ones, I’m a survivor. Throughout treatment I was supported by my brilliant family, my friends and inspired by thoughts of riding 2013 cycling events with my fellows of the road. Along the way I met many fantastic, brave and inspirational cancer victims, sadly some not so lucky ones who are no longer with us. I witnessed first-hand the devastating effects cancer has on families, especially when children are involved. For children, whose parents have cancer or, a parent’s worst nightmare when, a child is diagnosed. It’s absolutely heart-breaking.

I’m dedicating 2013 to being alive. And I'm cycling to raise money for kids affected by cancer. I’ll be pedalling thousands of miles on organised endurance events, including Boston to Washington DC, 300km Vatternrundan in Sweden, London to Paris in 24 hours, as well as many more. To be successful, I’ll also need to ride thousands of training miles across my native Yorkshire.

My chosen charity is ‘Cyclists Fighting Cancer’(CFC). It combines my passions for cycling, helping families affected by cancer and providing children with the joys of riding bikes. CFC has an inspirational founder in Mike Grisenthwaite, a cancer survivor himself, who during my treatment was a source of advice and motivation.  http://cyclistsfc.org.uk
