In October 2012 our beautiful boy was born. Following a normal pregnancy but long labour Ethan finally arrived but he appeared to be in shock so was routinely taken to the special care unit to give him some extra support with his breathing in the hope he would be back with us that evening.

 

Unfortunately Ethan deteriorated and underwent further scans and tests to try and determine what was wrong with him.  After a horrendous 24 hours it was confirmed that Ethan had an extradural haematoma (a bleed causing pressure on his brain) and we were informed that he needed to undergo emergency surgery at only one day old.

 

The operation was as successful as it could be and despite a couple of rollercoaster days, our little boy went from strength to strength and was able to come home after ten days in the special care unit of the RVI.  Ethan is now a thriving six month old boy and recent checks at the hospital are positive with no sign of any long term damage.

 

Words can’t describe how we felt, in what should have been the happiest days of our lives.  What did help us through was the fantastic support, care and dedication of all staff involved with the Special Care Baby Unit who kept us informed of every detail and were there to reassure us at all times.

 

Without these people - it could have been so different, which is why I’m raising money for Tiny Lives so they can continue to support premature and sick babies and their families in many ways.

 

SO PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY TO A FANTASTIC, WORTHWHILE CAUSE THAT CAN MAKE A SUCH DIFFERENCE TO THE LIVES OF BABIES AND THEIR FAMILIES.
