Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This is my story so far....
After hurting my neck in the gym my wife told me to go to the hospital as there was swelling. After much persuasion I decided to go to the hospital but the injury to my neck was not a concern to the medical staff at Edinburgh Royal but they did want to do a scan on my thyroid ( which is a butterfly shape organ in the front of your neck ). The scan showed swelling and patches in the thyroid I was told to come back for more tests. After months of tests and scans it was decided that my thyroid would have to be removed due to the size, rapid growth and the discovery of cancer , I had my thyroid removed on 5 March 2015 . The operation went well , but I'll be left with a scar on my neck as a reminder and I would live on medication called thyroxin for the rest of my life tablet to help replace the Hormone the thyroid producers. For weeks after my operation I felt tired I had mood swings and I gained a lot of weight It can take a long time to get used to the tablets for your body to start working with them.
I decided this would not stop me from doing the things I loved so I got back into the gym I went to Hollywood boxing where I met Bradley straight away I started to feel a bit better boxing helped me take my mind off things and Bradley gave me a target, a boxing match in August and opportunity to raise awareness of thyroid cancer and raise a bit of money for charity. My life was getting back to normal , but I was wrong , I thought it was over but it wasn't the doctor phoned me I would need radiation treatment to kill off any cancer left in my body the cancer may have spread to my blood the biopsy of the thyroid showed a large number of tumours. Not good news . The build up to my radiation treatment would put me on a strict diet and isolation for a number of days in hospital as I will be radioactive this is to take place on 6 July right in the middle of my training but this will not stop me, I will keep fighting cancer and I will be skill based boxing at Portobello on 8 August with the help of the doctors , Bradley and all the guys at hoolyrood boxing and I will beat cancer we can all beat cancer so please guys give what you can the more we can raise the harder I will train thank you I'll keep you all updated with my progress.
