Papyrus is a young person’s suicide prevention charity. That means we provide urgent support, education, campaigns and conversations that keep children and young people safe from suicide. And above all else, we’re here. We’re always here. That’s how we save lives.

Story

Hi I'm Kevin - thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I've been lucky enough to win a ballot entry to the 2013 London Marathon which means I can choose which charity, if any, to run for... SO THIS TIME IT'S PERSONAL!!

Some of you will know me but not many will know that my younger brother, James, took his own life in 1996 leaving a huge sense of loss, waste and guilt amongst those of us left behind.

PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide aim to achieve exactly what their name suggests running a valuable helpline, providing training, campaigning on relevant issues (such as internet protection) and generally promoting PREVENTION through understanding and communication.

I have always felt as though I should have understood and done more for James and I suspect that I am not alone. Sixteen years have passed but the feelings can still be very raw.

I have managed the London Marathon once before in a poor time of nearly 5:30 this time I'm going to be training like never before and aiming for 4:30 - whilst the race day is enjoyable (though hard) the long hours of training on your own throughout winter are, I promise you, really tough.

Thank you so much for your time and anything you can spare.

Kevin
