Welcome to Kevin's fundraising page.
We are raising funds for Aspire (a spinal injuries charity) to ensure Kevin has all the equipment he needs to lead an independant, healthy and fulfilling life.
In September 2009, Kevin had a kitesurfing accident and has been left paralysed from the chest down. For everyone that knows Kevin, you will know this is the worst thing that could have happened - Kevin has always adored being active, spending time kayaking, mountain biking, road cycling, kiteboarding, weight training and basically anything outdoors. All of which he enjoyed the most when alongside his wife, Becky. It wasn't just the activities Kevin loved, but being at one with nature and challenging his mind and body so much that he was exhausted by the end of it - but for all the right reasons!
All funds raised will kindly be managed by Aspire, so you can rest assured it is all above board.
Kevin has returned home but now the hard work starts! The items we wish to purchase will assist in ensuring he has the best possible physical and mental health now and in the long term. The equipment will provide exercise, therapy, easier mobility and acces to the great outdoors! They include:
1./ an indoor based exercise machine - exercises upper and lower body via electrical muscle stimulation FES bike
2./ an off road wheelchair - to get off the beaten track! Boma
3./ a lightweight wheelchair with power assistance - so Kev can can gain greater independence by moving about himself, and for longer distances.
(Not available via government support, total value of approx. £32!k)
Heartfelt thanks to everyone who last year walked, climbed, cycled, cake baked, played golf, kitebuggied, enjoyed a few drinks, tested their grey cells, and pulled a truck....all to support Kevin! We are overwhelmed by your support and for those who have donated.
We hope to have the FES bike and Boma off road wheelchair very soon - pics will be added!
