I have decided to take on this Channel Swim Relay Attempt, as those of you who know me, know I am always looking for a new challenge! I love swimming in open water, and find the sea much more demanding! When invited to join this team, I accepted straight away! I know my endurance swimming background and regular training regime should prepare me well, but I am still training hard. I am doing more non wetsuit training and distance in colder waters to prepare!

However, I am aware the conditions we may face are totally out of our hands! We will be in cold water, with the possibility of big swell and waves, debris, jelly fish and lots of BIG ships! Thank goodness we have a pilot boat to guide us from Dover, through all the shipping lanes to France!

For this to be a verified crossing we are only allowed to wear a costume/trunks, hat and goggles (oh and a bit of grease!). We will swim one hour each, then recover while the other team members do their hour - then back in for the same again! We will be in swimming about three times! The distance is 21.5 miles. However, as a team we will swim a lot farther and in more of an S shape due to the tides/currents. We could be swimming up to 7 miles each!

I am excited and nervous about this challenge! That is why I wanted a charity to benefit from it and my committment to the cause. The Pied Piepr Appeal is a local charity that works wonders for sick children at our local hospital. I am also running a Fundraising Raffle, but if you are unable to purchase a ticket for that, please use this page to place a donation in support of the event. Please support me and ultimately them by placing a donation - however small! Much appreciated! Kind regards, Kim. X
