Brighton Marathon 2010 · 18 April 2010 ·

We are a world-leading charity at the forefront of Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS). We are an independent charity. It costs over £15.2M a year to sustain our world-leading, cutting edge, innovative service and amazingly 86% comes from the incredible generosity of our supporters.

Story

Thanks for helping me raise money for the Air Ambulance.

If anybody knows me (and my mum can back this up) I can't run to save my life so I thought what better challenge for 2010 than to run a marathon!

The air ambulance has been called out for my family before and is a life saver for many people around the country on a daily basis, and what many people don't know is that it is mainly run by volunteers and relies on funding from the public.

Background about my chosen charity:

The Air Ambulance receive no funding from the NHS, Government or National Lottery, they rely almost entirely upon the generosity of the public for support. Each air ambulance unit costs approximately £1.7 million a year to run which is a cost of almost £4000 every time it is called out.
