Story

Did you get chance to flick through the pictures? He's a cutie aint he, all it needed was a simple heal prick test. You know, the one they give your newly born baby, the one your not really sure what it tests for even though you were given that leaflet explaining Newborn Screening. The test we all have because we want the best for our babies, because we want them healthy and happy.

Frankie had Krabbe Disease, by the time it was diagnosed at 7 months of age it was too late for him, it was irreversible and untreatable. If the disease had been included on the Newborn Screening Programme in the UK he would of had a fighting chance. There would have been options, choices and decisions to make. Instead there was palliative care, suffering, heartbreak and the hope for a miracle! The miracle never came for Frankie's family but we hope the future can bring change with the expansion of the Newborn Screening Programme here in the UK.

On the 1st May over a 4 day period a superteam of Frankie's family and friends will be taking on the 84 mile walk that is Hadrian's Wall. They're accepting the gruelling challenge in the hope of raising much needed funds for Save Babies Through Screening Foundation UK.

Save Babies UK is working in the UK to save and improve the lives of bbies, through early detection and treatment of the diseases through newborn screening.
