Royal Parks Half Marathon 2009 · 11 October 2009 ·

We believe decent homes are the heartbeat of strong communities and so we also fight for land rights for women, upgrade urban slums and informal settlements, improve access to water and sanitation, and help communities become more resilient in the face of natural disasters.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Over the past few months I have managed to turn myself into a runner.  "Excuse me, wha?" I hear you say, but yes I am now a runner and on 11 October 2009, I will be a half marathon runner.  A few of you are probably shocked by this revelation, as I am myself, but some focus and determination (or me being me and one to never back down on a bet from my marathon runner husband - you know what I mean!) has got me announcing to the world, that a miracle has happened - I can run for more than 3 miles without having a coronary!

I have decided to combine my personal , goal with raising money for Habitat for Humanity, a charity that helps to tackle poverty housing on a global scale, not just in third world areas but places that have been affected by natural disasters.  Having a roof over your head is something we take for granted in our country but everyone deserves decent living conditions and somewhere to be safe.  Habitat for Humanity are also involved with the Orphans and Vulnerable Children's Project, which helps children who have been left without parents or entire families because of HIV/AIDS.  They carry out this work in African countries like Zambia where half my blood is from, so this charity is very close to my heart and knowing that my efforts can go towards such a good cause has had a positive effect on my training.

Please give generously!
