Story
Thank you for taking the time to read my JustGiving page.
As many of you know, I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in November 2008. This came as a complete shock to me as I had thought I was pretty fit and healthy, I'd just been suffering with an annoying cough for a few months!
Being told that I had cancer was bad enough, but there were complications during the biopsy of my tumour which meant the surgeon had to perform some pretty tricky surgery. This resulted in a stay in intensive care for a few days and then a number of weeks in the BRI/Taunton Hospital/Yeovil Hospital.
I received 6 months of chemotherapy treatment and thankfully in July 2009 I was told that I was in remission.
2 years ago I decided to take up running and joined Yeovil Town Road Running Club. My aim was for the running to help me get fit and healthy and also to help me recover mentally.
I will never be a fast runner, I will never be an elite athlete but I love to run! I like to set myself running challenges in order to raise money for various cancer charities. This year I have decided to raise money for the Yeovil Macmillan Unit where I received my cancer treatment. I also have friends who have received treatment here, so raising money for the unit is my way of thanking Yeovil Macmillan for the work that they do.
Throughout 2014 I will be running 12 half marathons. I had hoped to be completing a full marathon at the end of the year but due to various reasons I've decided to put this off for a while. I fully intend to complete a marathon by the time I turn 40 so I have 18 months left to complete the final part of my challenge!!! A Marathon is going to be a huge challenge for me and if I can get round it in one piece it will be a massive personal achievement and my way of trampling all over cancer.
Most of us know someone who has fought cancer, is fighting cancer, or who has sadly lost their battle to cancer. So, please, if you feel like you could spare a few pound to help me raise money for the Yeovil Macmillan Unit I really would be truly grateful. It's only because of the kindness of other people that I have managed to raise a lot of money in the last few years for various cancer charities and for that I thank you. xxx
