Story
Hi Everyone,
Andy Boivin, Christian Papworth, Doug Bendle and Sam Naylor are part of the London Deloitte team, competing in the Kinabalu Challenge on the 23rd February 2007. The challenge involves 5 days spent in the jungles of Borneo undertaking running, mountain-biking, kayaking, rafting and trekking challenges. This includes a race up Mount Kinabalu itself (14,000ft!). In order to be able to enter the challenge we must raise £8000 for the charity.
The chosen charity we are sponsoring is Activenture. Part of the London Youth Organisation, Activenture provides residential activity holidays for young people with disabilities and special needs. This provides well needed respite to the parents and term time carers of the children as well as a fun and safe environment for the children to experience activities they otherwise would not normally have the opportunity to partake in. On their visit over Christmas the centre had over 70 children who took part in such activities as swimming, climbing, abseiling, tunnelling, orienteering, an assault course and many more! The centre even had a zip-line!!
The children have varying physical disabilities with many of them in wheelchairs which can make it more difficult for them to partake. Therefore any donations made are specifically going towards specially adapted wheelchairs for the centre so that all of the children can take part in the outdoor based activities. These wheelchairs cost £600 each and therefore it's hoped that they'll raise enough money to buy at least 10 wheelchairs. The remainder of the amounts raised will go towards providing much needed wheelchair access to the changing and accommodation facilities.
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: London Youth will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support,
Andy, Christian, Doug and Sam.
