ORCHYD provides a free of charge summer residential holiday for up to 20 children with physical disabilities. We also run day trips & weekends, and provide grants towards specialist equipment or similar activity schemes. ORCHYD is fully volunteer led, with a team of over 150 active volunteers.

Story

I plan on taking part in the three peaks challenge on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st of August 2009. The challenge involves climbing three mountains in 24hours - Ben Nevis, Mount Snowdon and Scafell Pike. It's going to be very difficult and I will most likely struggle but it will be worth it to raise money for Orchyd.

A little bit about Orchyd

Orchyd is a charity based in Ruislip and it provides a summer holiday for 20 physically disabled children aged eight to twelve from all over the country. It's an organisation based completely on volunteers from the local area to ensure that all the children have a great time with all the care and attention they need and the families have a well deserved respite.

A lot of work goes into Orchyd each year including escorting the children, nursing, catering, security and the organisation involved in making the holiday happen.

The children go to different outings each day including Legoland which is popular with both the children and the helpers, a weekend camping filled with activities, Paradise Wildlife Park and Thames Valley Adventure Playground.

I've been involved with Orchyd for three years now and have loved every minute of it. It's great to see how the holiday can have such an amazing impact on the lives of the families and how much fun the children have every year.

It would mean a great deal if you could sponsor me by donating even the smallest amount. Every penny you give will be greatly appreciated by the volunteers, the children and their families.
