HELP! I need to raise money for The Bubble Foundation

The Bubble Foundation · 6 August 2012

We support Ward 3 at The Great North Children's Hospital, where families live in a protective bubble. Whether it’s funding cutting-edge research, providing emotional and practical support for families, or ensuring children can still be children, everything we do is centred around care and hope.

Story

Imagine not being able to kiss your own baby. Imagine not being able to pick up your crying baby until you have scrubbed your hands clean for three minutes and put on a special gown.
Some parents don’t have to imagine, for them it is real. Their children suffer from a rare, inherited condition called Severe Combined Immune Deficiency Syndrome, or SCID. They are born without an immune system and cannot fight the simplest of infection. Even the ‘common cold ‘ passed on a by a mother’s kiss can be fatal.
My nephew Rhys Martin Nightingale was born 2nd August 2012 with SCID and he is currently at The Children’s Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in Newcastle-upon-Tyne which is one of only two units in the UK and Ireland that can give these precious babies the meticulous medical and nursing care needed. Rhys has to live in 'A BUBBLE', a high-tech sterile space, measuring 8 feet square, this will be his 'home' for the duration of his treatment until he receives a Bone Marrow Transplant, this process typically takes 6 months, but can be longer, up to 2 years.
The BUBBLE FOUNDATION UK raises funds for medical equipment, toys and educational aids, welfare of the babies, children and their families, and importantly to fund research required at this cutting edge of paediatric practice.
Please help me in a bid to raise as much money as I can to gift to this wonderful charity. I will be looking to complete some events over the next year and I have dusted off my running shoes to run the GREAT WINTER RUN in Jan 2013, a half Marathon and my biggest challenge yet.
I have set this page up now for anyone who wishes to donate some money, even just £1 for now until nearer the time. But watch this space as there will be some more events shortly.
Thanks in advance for your help and support, Rhys and his family appreciate all your support too.
Love
Kirsty
