Story
On 9 July, Dom, Gill and I will climb Ben Nevis by torch and moonlight to raise money for a charity very close to our hearts.
Dom is undertaking 16 challenges in 2016 to raise funds for the Alzheimers society because of the impact this very cruel disease is having on his family. Read more about Dom and his family here http://www.sixteenin16.co.uk/
My own family has been affected by dementia too. My lovely Nanna Dot had dementia for years before she sadly passed away in 2003. She was a wonderful lady and to see her deteriorate before our eyes was distressing and painful for all of our family.
I want to raise as much money as possible towards funding research in to dementia, the care and treatment of patients and supporting their families.
Having seen the effects for myself, I really can't describe how upsetting and isolating Alzheimer's can be and how important it is to raise funds for this charity. Imagine the person you love - confused, frustrated, not recognising you, not being able to communicate with you, refusing the care they need because they do not understand..... these are just some of the symptoms of this cruel disease for which there is no cure.
Help me to raise funds to improve care and treatment, to raise awareness and understanding..... Please dig deep and sponsor me as much as you can. Thank you so much xxx

Dementia can happen to ANYONE and there's currently NO CURE. There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK and the number is set to rise to 1 million by 2021.
The Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia support and research charity, supporting anyone affected by any form of dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
They provide infomation and practical and emotional support to help people live well with dementia, and they invest in world-class research with the ultimate goal of defeating it.
They also campaign to improve public understanding of dementia and the devastating impact it can have, and make sure it's taken seriously and acted on by our governments.
