Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On June 11 2011 I will be taking part in St Dunstan's 100k walk from London to Brighton to raise funds for blind ex service men and women.

#mce_temp_url#

There are a few reasons why I'm doing this which are worth outlining:

1. I am clearly having a midlife crisis which running a marathon last year didn't cure and I need another challenge to keep me out of mischief!

2. I have very poor eyesight myself ( minus 8 in each eye) which means that I can't really see further than the end of my admittedly quite long nose without contact lenses or glasses to correct my vision. I have often wondered how different my life would be if I had to manage even a day without my glasses.

3. I was inspired to raise funds for St Dunstan's after meeting a St Dunstaner during some BMF ( British Military Fitness) sessions. The small detail of him not being able to see didn't hinder him in the slightest from beasting his sighted companion up and down the beach. His story can be read here:

http://vgportal.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/campaigns/our_boys/3507952/Hero-blinded-by-Taliban-bomb-weds-his-nurse.html

Please follow the link to find out more about the work that St Dunstan's does:

#mce_temp_url#

I do actually quite like walking but 100k in 24 hours will hurt and I doubt that I'll ever do anything quite like it again. My feet already look disgusting and I intend to update my page and blog with all manner of gory illustration so that you'll feel compelled to donate - £10 a blister, maybe £20 per lost toenail??

Unlike running, walk training does take quite a long time and I've been having to do loads of practise walks over the weekends to ensure that I've got the stamina to crack this walk out. So I'll spend my Sundays talking to sheep, avoiding cows, and getting revolting feet and you can just get your credit card out....seems like a good deal!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
