The Brain Tumour Charity is the world’s leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. Committed to saving and improving lives, we’re moving further and faster to help every single person affected by a brain tumour. A cure really can’t wait

Story

Arco entered this event last year with the biggest corporate team ever entered and have decided to enter a team once again. I have  foolishly agreed to join them.

For those that know me, now you have picked yourself off the floor and wiped the laughter tears from your eyes, why am I doing this?

Well I can't think of a better person to sponsor in a run than a man whose motto is 'One should only run if one's being chased!'.... Add to that, that I am built for a more sedentary lifestyle, throw in the thought of a fat guy puffing along the streets late at night in training for the next three months and that's gotta be worth a few quid, isn't it?

Ok, if not then here's the unashamed emotional piece. Most of you will all be well aware of what Kiera went through as a baby. At nine months old she was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Something I sometimes find hard to believe these days.

We spent hours in A&E's trying to get a diagnosis for what was wrong with our little girl, endless trips to our GP and numerous trips in ambulances. The day we got the news and that next morning whilst they operated was the darkest of my life, but we were lucky and she came through the first part with few long term side effects thanks to amazing doctors and surgeons...... She will never be completely out of the woods however.

Other families are not so fortunate and the help and support offered to those by fantastic charities like the brain tumour charity are immense.

More specifically the heads smart campaign which is directly targeting the diagnosis of brain tumours in children, highlighting the symptoms amongst GP's and medical workers and the reduction times taken to diagnose....... On average you need to be seen by 8 doctors ....... We saw double that.

Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killers of children and adults under 40. Over 500million is spent on cancer research in the Uk every year, yet less that 2% is spent on brain tumours .... 2% !!!

We were lucky and we are thankful for that every time Kiera makes us laugh and smile .... Help us do the same for another family.
