Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
11th July 2019: National 3 Peaks in 24 hours, including travel from Wales through to Scotland.
For those of you who know me well, you will know there was a time when I couldn't walk at all due to my back issues that resulted in me having to have an emergency back operation. Thanks to a team of fantastic Health Professionals and me doing as I'm told for once, I have recovered to the point of being told I am fit enough to take on this massive challenge of walking up the 3 highest mountains in the UK, all within 24 hours including travel in between. I will be doing this challenge with some of the amazing health professionals that helped me get where I am today, so to be able to do this challenge will be a really emotional journey for me.
But more importantly, the Challenge is to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. We have all been affected by cancer in one way or another, whether that be personally or a loved one. Whatever age the person who is told they have cancer, it is truly devastating. To think about being told you have the Big C when you are a teenager, I can't even imagine how that would feel.
This challenge is being done in the memory of a young lady called Maisie who had a massive impact on everyone who knew her. Maisie was a very vibrant and courageous young girl who was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive bone cancer called Erwing's Sarcoma. In 2014 at 15 years of age she underwent intensive rounds of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and stem cell transplant at Ward C9 at Addenbrooks Hospital, Cambridge. This was all facilitated by Teenage Cancer Trust, who fund 28 specialist units across the UK and 48 specialist nurses and youth support co-ordinators. Sadly, 7 young people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer EVERY DAY. In memory of Maisie, Team Maisie 100 are committed to fundraising for this amazing charity to help ensure that Teenage Cancer Trust can continue to support young people's lives, Without the support of the Consultants, Doctors, Nurses and youth support co-ordinators, the young people and their families would have no ray of sunlight.
