In late December 2011, I decided that I would like to run the Belfast Marathon. I never in my life thought I would be able to run a mile, let alone 26.2

But I have been motivated by the fact that people will be donating to two very worthy causes for my pain and effort. On this page you can donate to Life after Loss, but I am also raising money for SANDS Donate to SANDS

The difficulties I face in training and running a marathon are nothing in comparison to the pain of the 17 families in the UK every week who are left reeling and devastated by still born or neo-natal deaths.

Stillbirths happen ten times more frequently than cot deaths: 1 in 2,500 babies die from cot death; 1 in 200 are stillborn. Yet while the levels of cot death have fallen dramatically in recent years, levels of stillbirth and neonatal death have remained virtually unchanged for 20 years.

By sponsoring my marathon run, you are helping support bereaved families and are funding research into stopping more families from having to suffer the greif and pain of loosing a child.

Any money you can spare would be greatly appreciated.

This kind of loss is simply devastating, and often misunderstood by those who have not been through it themselves.

The focus of this site, as its name suggests, is to help people to 'pick up the pieces' and somehow continue with life. At times this is not easy, but with each other as support, these woman aim to show that it is possible to go on. Life will never be the same again, but it can be bearable, and with time you can learn to live again and even smile again.
