Story
On Thursday the 28th August 2014 Sam Ellam, Tom Cokill, Andy Funnell, Jamie Scott and Fraser Craig will be cycling from Millennium Square in Leeds to Newquay in Cornwall. This epic 450 mile ride will be done over 4 days and supported by our lovely Soigneur, Dean Bagnall, who has offered to drive the car, set up camp each night and cook for us. It’s going to be ridiculously hard and, if the simple by comparison and now world famous (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcp7n_cUQ1s) London to Paris trip of last year proves, not to be taken lightly.
So why are we putting ourselves through this? It’s really simple, because we want to help these guys - SMA Support UK (hhttp://www.smasupportuk.org.uk/) and to be completely honest so should you!!
SMA Support UK helps kids! Kids who have Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Each year up to 2000 families and professionals contactthem for advice on living with SMA. They receive no government funding and rely on public support to keep their vital services running. We would be very grateful if you would join us in helping them.
Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a rare inherited neuromuscular condition. The effects of each type of SMA vary from a reduced ability to walk to the worst cases where children are never able to sit unaided and rarely survive their second birthday.
In order to treat SMA the underlying genetic defect needs to be addressed. At present this is not possible. The day-to-day focus is therefore on treatment of the symptoms and the delivery of the highest standards of care. This includes anticipatory care, managing symptoms, and maintaining the best quality of life. And this is exactly what the they do.
So please give as generously as possible people. We are aiming to raise £2000 with this event which will help so many people.
