Thanks for taking the time to visit our 'L3 CHALLENGE' JustGiving page.

WE DID IT!!!! We completed the challenge in a great time and had a fabulous time along the way. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to our charity challenge and you can still donate on this website if you haven't already.
We have uploaded some photos from the challenge and would like to give special thanks to Sue Burley for taking some excellent photos throughout our training and on the day of the challenge too ... providing hard evidence of the effort put in by all of us!

We are the Type 45 Destroyer Charity Team which is represented by members of the Royal Navy, BAE Systems and our Industry Partners, including MBDA.
Last year we completed a military assault course at HMS Collingwood in Fareham, Hampshire in aid of Help for Heroes and this year we decided to do something truly challenging … the Lakes Longest and Loftiest – ‘The L3 Challenge’ in aid of the Solent Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre – a truly worthy and local charity here in Portsmouth who provide much-needed support to those in the region who suffer this debilitating condition.
In June an incredibly fit team (yeah right!!) of 8 (Vicky Barr, Mark Burley, Dave Mackie, Ian Hindmarsh, Steve Hiscox, Steve Lynn, Dave Moss and Barry Stafford) and their dedicated support crew (Paul Maynard) will travel to the stunning Lake District, Cumbria and undertake a three-stage challenge in a single day.
The team will row the entire 10.5-mile length from the bottom to the top of England’s largest natural lake – Windermere. Then we trek west 7 miles to the base of England’s loftiest peak - Scafell Pike and subsequently climb all of the 3209 feet (978 metres) to its summit before descending for some well-deserved rest, recuperation and substantial quantities of pub-grub (and undoubtedly some of the local brew)!!
By attempting all this in a single day it will understandably be a very early start … and probably a very late finish (!) but we hope to raise a truly substantial amount of money for the Solent Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre.Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
We have included some photos of our training as it progresses and as the big day draws closer – keep watching to see our calamities in kayaks!!!
We visited the Solent MS Centre on Friday, 7th May to meet the staff and some of the inspirational people who benfit so much from the service and facilities provided. We were made extremely welcome by everyone there and took the opportunity for some photos which we have included above. One of the key facilities is the Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber, which provides a pressurised pure oxygen environment for up to eight people. This treatment is proven to speed up tissue repair, substantially reduces swelling and, for a period, relieves many of the MS-sufferers' symptoms. We hope the money raised will help to fund the continued provision of this essential service.
Thank you so much to all of you who have pledged to us
