'When a catastrophe strikes, people living with intellectual disabilities are the first to be affected.'
- Jean Vanier

Many thanks for visiting this page about L'Arche Haiti

Donations are urgently needed now and over the coming months to kick-start the rebuilding of the L’Arche community houses and infrastructure of this shattered community, one of the poorest in the international federation of L’Arche.

Out of the 11 buildings that were home to 40 community members with learning disabilities, only one remains habitable. The others have been condemned and can no longer be used.

We have now learnt that one of the founding members of L'Arche Carrefour has died in this catastrophe but the other community members with learning disabilities miraculously survived the earthquake. They are having to live outdoors with just mattresses to sleep on with no electricity and only makeshift sanitation. A relief team from the Dominican Church is helping L’Arche Haiti with medical needs and supplies but food, water and medicines are in short supply. They reported that although the community members are in shock they are in good shape considering the devastation that surrounds them.

Sadly two members of the L’Arche Haiti Board perished in the earthquake. Our thoughts and prayers a re with their families and friends.

We need your donations to help rebuild these communities in a country where the State has never been able to respond to even the most basic needs of people with disabilities.

If you can, please give generously to the people of L’Arche Haiti and help them to rebuild their homes, their lives, and their hope.
