Hallo Friends - read on - we have some great news and you all are part of it!
The 40 young people with learning disabilities in L'Arche Uganda can now depend on their minibus for transport. NOW IT WILL BE A CHRISTMAS PRESENT.
We've had a fantastic response FROM YOU ALL. Michael Bentham ran the Great South Run for the THIRD time at the end of October. A friend's Mum who has done 2 years baby-sitting for young George decided she'd make a gift to ODF as a thank you. Mum said she has worked it out that she's worth 50p an hour excluding food & petrol. What a great Gran! Several young people had a party and asked for an 'extra' £7 per party-goer for two charities and we were one of them - we got a fantastic £500 ++. And from two couples we've benfited from donations rather than wedding presents and christening presents.
We will now be able to continue collecting our young members from their homes & deliver them back at the end of the day and the older members can now continue their work projects - candle & jewellery making, gardening, sewing etc. This bus is a life-line and coming to school or work enables their families (usually just the mothers) to go out to work too.
We are home and dry and completely bowled over by the generosity of so many marvelous donors (over 150 of you & I can't possibly write to you all so please accept this as a big thank you).
Tessa
