Story

My hubby Steven first showed signs of a problem in February 2010 and was back and forwards to the doctors until he eventually took himself to A&E for the 2nd time on 31st May 2010 when a doctor finally realised that Steven had a tumour. He was operated on on 11th June and a huge tumour was removed. It took another 3 weeks before we told that it was a Neuroendocrine Carcinoma that Steven had.....they told us it was incurable but hopefully with chemotherapy they could improve his life expectancy. We got married on 28th August 2010 and it was the happiest day ever....especially in the midst of the anxiety and sadness we were all feeling too. We had a weeks honeymoon in Tenerife where I took the photo you see on this page.....I had no idea how precious that photo would turn out to be. We returned from honeymoon and Steven endured 3 bouts of a huge dose of chemotherapy.....by November it was really starting to take its toll and his body was struggling with the side effects from the chemo but there was also another tumor growing rapidly. They sent him home from hospital for a break but we were hopeful he would be offered further treatment after christmas. All along he just kept saying he wanted to have a nice christmas with all his loved ones round him.

On 22 December they told us that they wouldnt be offering Steven any more treatment as he was to ill and told us he had at least a couple of weeks but hopefully a couple of short months left with us. Sadly this wasnt to be.....Steven passed away just before 10pm on christmas night....but he got his wish and he had christmas day with all his family and loved ones around him and thankfully we all had the honour of being by his side and holding him tight as he slipped away.

Stevens death has left such a big hole in our lives and the lives of many others he met along the way.

I have chosen this charity for our page "NET Patient Foundation" as they are currently doing research into the specific kind of cancer Steven had....it is a rare cancer and the kind Steven had even rarer as it was so aggressive. This charity needs funds to continue research and also to highlight this cancer not only to all of us but especially to the medical profession.....the symptoms can be contributed to IBS and other similar stomach complaints which can lead to wrong diagnosis being made. The earlier these Neuroendcrine Tumors are diagnosed the better the outcome for the patient.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Myself, Karli, Stevens's parents John & Liz and his brother Jonny appreciate all the love, help and support we have received and continue to receive everyday.
