2011

Chris Kay is running the great scottish run half marathon again this year on Sunday 4th September

2010

Initially set up for the Cindy-Lou Film on Parkinson's.

The film was shown during Parkinson's Awareness Week (19th - 25th April).at the National Museum of Rural Life, Stewartfield Way, East Kilbride,  G76 9HR.

The official Opening Night was on Thursday 22nd from 6pm to 7:30pm when there was a reception, special guests, a short introductory talk about Parkinson's, a screening of Cindy-Lou's documentary and a raffle and auction to raise funds for the local Parkinson's Branch of which her father is a member.

Cindy's nephew Chris Kay, decided to do the half marathon event of the Great Scottish Run to help raise funds.

I was aware that my grandad was suffering from Parkinson’s but I did not know very much about it until I watched her film. I assumed that Parkinson’s was just the type of things that “comes along with age”.

It was not until I watched Cindy’s film that I realised the true range of people that can contract the disease and how badly people’s lives can be affected by the disease.

It was a truly humbling and uplifting experience to hear off of all of the good work that the people in the group carry out on a daily basis. I genuinely felt inspired after watching the film and am extremely grateful for the work that Cindy has put into this project as I feel that, without this, I would never have had my eyes truly opened. The race took place on Sunday 5 September 2010. My only previous experience of running in an organised event was when I took part in the 10k event for GSR 2009 event. Until shortly before the event I had only trained for repeating the 10k distance but, as the dates approached I began to get nervous about raising sufficient sponsorship money, so I decided to go for the half marathon event (double the 10k). I found it quite hard going on the day but, in the end I came through and finished with a time of 2Hr 1Min 23Secs.

I had originally set a target of £150 however, my gamble has paid off as I have managed to raise £200 and now fully expect this figure to increase to £250 in the coming weeks.
