On 16th October 2011 Lusaka Hash House Harriers will again be holding its annual Wheelchair Run to raise funds for Cheshire Homes in Zambia. This is the major annual fund-raising event that we hold for this worthy cause and this year we’d like to see if we can yet again raise as much money as we can to help children who badly need our support. Cheshire Homes in Zambia works primarily with disabled children operating 10 homes and a specialist orthopaedic hospital. Through a combination of surgery, residential care, rehabilitation, community outreach and vocational training programmes, each year Cheshire Homes makes a real difference to the lives of hundreds of disabled children, helping them to integrate more fully into wider society. Lusaka Hash House Harriers have been supporting Cheshire Homes since 1997 when the first Wheelchair Run was held with the twin aims of raising enough cash to buy two much-needed wheelchairs for the Kabulonga Cheshire Home and giving children from the home a fun day out. Since then the event has grown and grown become a regular fixture on the Lusaka calendar raising increasing sums of money each year for Cheshire Homes. In 2011 we raised a total of over £10,000 ($15,000) in cash alone with significant amounts of goods and supplies also being donated directly for use by the homes. Please help us in our efforts in whatever way you can.
