On 6th August I'll be flying out for a relaxing three days in Nairobi (!) before climbing Kilimanjaro along the Lemosho Glades route over 8 days.
Clearly I have no idea what I have let myself in for. I have however given up smoking (more scared of the mountain than Mr Nicotine) and drinking (ish) and have swapped my Chie Mihara's for a pair of walking boots in which I am now pounding the pavements of London and Norfolk to get some walking miles under my belt - not the best mountain terrain I grant you but Highgate Hill is quite steep.
I thought it churlish to do all of this and not try to raise some money for a charity at the same time. Tim Ellis is leading our team for the climb and has long been involved with the Calabash Trust. It is a charity based in Port Elizabeth, South Africa which channels support from Tourism into sustainable development in disadvantaged communities within Port Elizabeth. It is the sort of charity where a little can make a huge difference and I'd be really grateful for a donation to the Calabash Trust to make this challenge really meaningful.
Our team comprises Tim, Stephanie, Stuart, Joris and Harry and I'm relying on all of them !
