HELLO.
Yes! I am running 250 km's again in an ultra desert marathon! A moment of madness took me when i saw how much a friend of mines daughter has had to endure at such a young age with this most awful disease, cancer, which we have all been touched by i am sure, but when it happens to a child it just seems so much crueller. I said i would never do this again but there always seems to be really good reasons to raise much needed money for people who are close to me who are being effected by illnesses that need money raised for them to have a better chance to get better or people whose lives will be made a happier place to live in by kind donations of any denomination, great or small. I know some of you my friends are broke practically but even 10 pounds will help. As for you richer ones, you know who you are!!!.... Please donate?
This time its in the Sahara desert , ending at the Pyramids and again I have asked my two fantastic friends to come with me as a team again. The name for our team is "TEAM GOOD SPORT". I know its corny but its sport that is good because its a team working together to raise money. We have to carry all our gear, clothes, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, our food and anything else that we need with us for survival for the 6 days which we are out there in the desert in. This makes for a backpack weight of anywhere between 20 to 30lbs each at the start of the race, thats if we are lucky. The course will take us up and down some very high sand dunes, and we will have to be navigating across the desert throughout the course.
Like the last desert endurance race i did in May i know it just boils down to how much pain will we be able to take. Damaged feet like last time are in the forefront of my mind, given that its sand and sweat that keeps rubbing against them constantly. Therefore our pain thresholds needs to be high. The Last Desert run i did, i was in a wheelchair for 3 days after with septic feet and no nails to protect the open wounds that had formed in there place!
But its always been a dream of mine to go to Sahara, i just never thought i would have to run across it in order to see it. I'm sure we will see some breathtaking scenery but im not sure if we will actually appreciate it as I think we will be hurting if not hallucinating!! If anyone would like to donate some money to the Sparks appeal thank you for supporting this worthwhile cause.
