Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As Chairman of Lancashire Young Farmers I have challenged our members to cycle the 300 mile round trip to visit all 18 club rooms in the County over 3 days. The challenge will took place on August 9th, 10th and 11th and it is to raise money for research into Alpers Syndrome.

The weekend had many ups and down (literally and emotionally) as we members of Lancashire YFC joined me as we cycled around all 18 club rooms in the County. We covered approximately 300 miles over 3 days for our 2014 Chairman's Challenge.

The Challenge began with me doing a 24mph hedge dive within the first 3 miles of day one! Luckily I managed to get away with just a grazed elbow and a couple bruises. Although the weather was relatively decent on Saturday the hills certainly weren't and the last leg from Slaidburn to Hornby was a bit of a killer and tested of all of the members who took part but we all persevered and made the full stretch!

It was great to meet Ryan Stanford and his Dad briefly on Saturday night before we had tea out with some Vale and Winmarleigh members. Sunday was quite the opposite, flatter roads mixed with heavy downpours and strong winds as the tail end of hurricane Bertha made an appearance. Thankfully the weather eased following our extended lunch break at Little Town Dairies and the afternoon was relatively mild. Although getting lost on the way to Kirkham didn’t do much for our legs!

Day three was another very testing day; setting out at 7:30am as we had the two previous days with pretty strong winds. As it was Monday traffic was worse than the weekend and numbers were dwindling throughout the day with only three members cycling from Tarleton to Parbold and Chorley and leaving me to fly solo from Chorley to Rainford, Croft and Bury. But my welcome party at Bury made it all worthwhile!

Day One's route: Summerseat Garden Centre (Bury YFC) - The Barlow Institute, Edgerton (Turton YFC) - Pendleton Village Hall (Clitheroe YFC) - Barley Village Hall (Pendle YFC) - Bolton By Bowland Village Hall (Bolton By Bowland YFC) - Slaidburn Village Hall (Slaidburn YFC) - The Castle, Hornby (Vale O' Lune YFC).

Day Two: The Castle, Hornby (Vale O' Lune YFC) - Winmarleigh Village Hall (Winmarleigh YFC) - Bilsborrow Village Hall (Bilsborrow YFC) - Chipping Community Centre (Chipping YFC) - Little Town Dairies (Longridge YFC) - Newton with Scales Village Hall (Kirkham YFC) - Samlesbury Memorial Hall (Samlesbury YFC).

Day Three: Samlesbury Memorial Hall (Samlesbury YFC) - Mere Brow Village Hall (Tarleton YFC) - Wrightington Village Hall (Parbold) - Blackrod Cricket Club (Chorley YFC) - Crawford Village Hall (Rainford YFC) - Croft Village Hall (Croft YFC) - Summerseat Garden Centre (Bury YFC).

Our chosen charity is one close to our heart as a past member of Lancashire YFC currently has a 6 year old child who is unfortunately suffering with Alpers Syndrome. There is very little funding that is put towards research for this; more details can be seen on our Just Giving page.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the weekend; to the cyclists, support drivers, accommodation and refreshment providers and everyone else for your encouragement and donations!
