Africa Rally · 13 December 2009 ·

Ripple Effect is creating a wave of change in rural Africa. Our farmers learn, grow and sell more, releasing the potential in their land and lives. Then they pass the knowledge on, creating a wave of change across rural Africa.

Story

We are the Langley Allstars and as part of our Epic trip to Africa in our little car of goodness we are raising money for Send a Cow

The Send a Cow project benefiting from the rally began in 2007 and is in the far North region of Cameroon. Farmers there are faced with a very different set of problems.

The area is very arid with a long dry season so growing crops is challenging. Livestock herding is common in this area and there is conflict for land resources between croppers and herders. We are helping people to successfully combine livestock and crop growing in the arid conditions and to improve their environment.

Families there have already seen many benefits. The training has bought communities and families together. Many families report that they are all now involved in household and farm chores as well as sharing the benefits together. Providing donkeys to help with ploughing has made a big difference, enabling more land to be opened up for cropping. Crop yields have increased significantly and farmers are starting to earn a good income from selling their offspring, particularly sheep and pigs.
