So almost every year I like to set myself a challenge and do something running related to raise some cash for a worthy charity. I started out seven years ago as an overweight fast walker and built up from 5k and 10k events to half marathons.
This year is no different and to take it up a notch I alongside Liz (my work wife) will be taking part in both the Great North Run and The Robin Hood half marathon as team Lizra.
The Nottingham Half Marathon will be run as part of a 500 strong team from the University of Nottingham raising money for the Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre. For over 20 years, visionary clinicians and researchers along with generous donors and fundraisers, have all helped make the Children's Brain Tumour Research Centre (CBTRC) into the leading facility it is today treating over 550 children and giving hope to thousands more around the world. With 10 children in the UK alone diagnosed with a brain tumour every week, more research into this disease is urgently needed and any support is greatly appreciated.
We will be running the Great North Run to raise money for St. Oswald's Hospice, an independent, voluntary organisation which provides hospice care for people across the North East of England and a charity close to Liz's heart.
