Great Manchester Run 2018 · 20 May 2018 ·

Coming out, or being outed as LGBTQ+ can lead to young people being made homeless. This is the reality for 77% of the young people akt supports. We proudly offer safe homes and better futures for LGBTQ+ people aged 16-25.

Story

For some reason I have decided to stop letting my asthma control what I can and cannot do and to sign up for the Great Manchester Run (10k). As part of the University of Manchester's Purple Wave I will be attempting to complete a full 10k, which might not seem like a lot but for a couch-potato like me that is a long way to run.

Now, if I'm already running, I might as well do it for a good cause. There are too many young LGBTQIA+ people in the UK struggling that have nowhere to reach out to. I have been very fortunate with an accepting environment, but not everyone is as fortunate. LGBTQIA+ youths are overrepresented within the UK's homeless population.
Just £50 can ensure a person has emergency accomodation and everything they need for 3 nights.

Even if it's just a small amount, I am deeply grateful for every donation and am proud to face this challenge for a good cause.
