Last November I visited with my wife Diane, who is PA to Gill Carrick, to support Gill in her 3 marathon.  In addition to her ‘day job’, Gill is the current Chair of  the Women of the Year Lunch, an organization that held its first event over 50 years ago.  Since this time it has grown in terms of influence and weight to what it is today, broadening its original activity from running an annual Lunch to celebrate the achievements of 500 extraordinary women, to initiating an Annual Lecture and the setting up of a Foundation in 2001, whose aim is to relieve the needs of women by offering financial and practical support. The Foundation is funded by donations and profits from the annual Women of the Year Lunch.  Each year, it aims to give grants in the for up to £10,000 and an international grant of up to £5,000.  Examples of some of the success stories can be found at http://www.womenoftheyear.co.uk/foundation.htm.

Gill, who is just a ‘few years’ my senior, inspired me to undertake this crazy adventure, and on 1 November I will be pounding the streets of New York, along with Gill and some other “Elite athletes” (only joking) in aid of the above Foundation.

Diane and some very good friends will be there to encourage us and administer the required first aid and necessary massaging of our feet and egos.

My tired and weary body, and your generosity, should ensure that many deserving women will have cause to thank us for the help that the organization will be able to give them as a result of all this effort.

Please sponsor me!  Your help and best wishes will spur me on to the finish line when my feet will be screaming for me to stop.
