Hello everyone,
I am running my very first half marathon and hope to raise money for charity in Lucy's memory.
The cause
Many of you knew Lucy, who passed away on 17th December 2008. She spent the last few weeks of her life in the Garden House Hospice, which cared for Lucy and her family with great kindness, sensitivity and dedication.
Lucy was keen for money to be raised for the hospice in her memory and we discussed some of the things we could do, which unluckily for me included doing a long run!
The race and the training
I have a place in the Royal Parks Half Marathon. The run starts in Hyde Park at 9am on 11th October and the route takes in a number of other parks and the river before finishing 13.1 miles later back in Hyde Park. If anyone is around to come and cheer me on, please do!
I have been training since early June doing 2 to 3 runs a week and in an attempt to be ready for the race will be doing a 10 mile run on my birthday and a 12 mile run on my wedding anniversary. Despite sore shins and dodgy hamstrings I am hopeful that I will be able to make it round the course - I am not aiming for a specific time but anything under 2hrs 30 will be a bonus!
Keep me running!
I am going to make a new playlist to listen to during the race and to keep me going when it gets tough. I would be very grateful for your suggestions for songs to include to help me get round the course!
Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for your donations.
