On Sunday 24th July I will be cycling from London to Cambridge to raise money for The Foundation of the Relief of Disabled Orphans. Lee and I recently visited Romania and met disabled children who'd been left abandoned in institutions, unfortunately still a common occurence in the country.
Some of these children live with severe disabilities which affect their feeding. Due to poor nutritional practices within the institutions the children are often malnourished. FRODO is working to reduce the prevalence of malnutrition and to improve the feeding experience amongst the orphans with disabilities and to develop the knowledge, attitudes and practises regarding nutrition and feeding amongst the staff working with the children in these centres.
With your kind donation I am striving to improve the lives of many children, in particular two boys that I met at an orphanage in need of essential medical assessment and a nutritional programme to be established by a doctor and a nutritionist. They have nobody to fight their corner and are left in their cots with inadequate sustenance. I left Romania determined to do something to help them.
The photo is of a mother and son who are helped by the Abandonment Prevention programme that Lee and I raised money for in 2008, supporting vulnerable mothers to keep their babies.
