London to Paris Cycling Challenge · 12 July 2018
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am taking on the huge challenge of cycling 181 miles from London to Paris over three days - despite never cycling on the roads (except on a recent trip to Amsterdam where I was more Tour de bar than Tour de France). I don't (yet) own a bike and I'm relying on my spin-class skills to prepare me for the endurance challenge and hopping back on to the saddle with a sore behind. Please do support me, as I'm preparing for the fact that I probably am going to fall off quite a few times and I will be the one cycling on the wrong side of the road in France.
There are currently around 850,000 people in the UK with dementia. It mainly affects people over the age of 65 (one in 14 people in this age group have dementia), and the likelihood of developing dementia increases significantly with age. However, dementia can affect younger people too. There are more than 42,000 people in the UK under 65 with dementia.
Alzheimer's Society is the only UK charity investing into dementia care, cause, cure and prevention. They have committed to spending £150 million on cutting-edge research over the next decade. Every project they fund directly addresses the needs and concerns of people affected by dementia.
The main thing for me is to raise awareness as well as fundraising for this brilliant charity, so if you want to become a dementia friend - sign up on the website: https://www.dementiafriends.org.uk/
