Story
On 19th May 2016 we will be cycling the 500km from London to Paris in just 4 days. Cycling through country lanes, negotiating difficult hill climbs, hopefully some flat French countryside before descending into a triumphant finish along the Champs Elysees. Our motivation: to raise valuable funds to assist the fight against Leukaemia.
This will be an extreme challenge for all of us especially as we have never attempted anything like this before. We are also currently battling short winter days and the British weather so spin classes at the gym have become our best friend!
Here's what we have let ourselves in for, not sure the organisers' idea of gentle is the same as ours!!!
- Day 1 - A gentle intro! An early morning start from the Royal Observatory in Greenwich Park before a hill climb and just the 127km to Folkestone!
- Day 2 - Hill climbs in Northern France - stage distance of 135.1km
- Day 3 - This is a slightly shorter day in overall distance but still with some challenging hills to contend with - 115km
- Day 4 - Thank goodness!! Fingers crossed we will arrive and ride up the cobbles to the Arc de Triomphe and then onto the finish line beside the Eiffel Tower. Just the 100km on the last day!
That seems like an awful lot of hills - we were told Northern France was flat!
So as you can see a tough 4 days ahead of us. However, you could make it easier by making an online donation so that when we are cycling up those hills struggling to pedal as everything's aching, we will have something to motivate and keep us going.
We're raising money for Cure Leukaemia. Leukaemia is a cancer of the blood that usually begins in the bone marrow. It can affect anyone at any age, and Cure Leukaemia has been fighting back for more than ten years. Around 12,000 people die from blood cancers in Britain each year. The prospect of survival for many adults with the disease is still less than 50%, which is exactly why your support is so vital and so valuable.
The charity was established in 2003 to allow patients with blood cancer access to the remarkably effective new treatments that are continually being developed.
Every £1 raised will be used towards pioneering treatments and research, helping people suffering from this terrible disease and moving us ever closer towards a cure.
Any support/donations that you feel able to contribute would be much appreciated because 100% of the monies raised goes directly towards improving the lives of 30,000 people diagnosed with blood cancer in the UK each year.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your support.
