04/07/11: Thanks so much for your support so far! Swim #1 completed on Saturday. 1 mile around Royal Victoria Docks on a beautiful sunny day in 27 minutes, 16 seconds.

As the weather starts to warm up, I start getting asked repeatedly: 'So, any plans to jump in the Thames again this summer?' For the third year running, the answer is YES!

This year, I'm upping the stakes again by adding an additional swim. This is because: (a) I like a challenge, and (b) I figure if I'm asking you to continue to support this amazing cause, I can't just do the same as last year. Last year I raised more than £1500, with a very generous additional £500 from Deloitte, my employer, in matched fundraising. This year, I'd like to raise at least that much, but it would be fabulous to beat it by a LOT.

SO, this summer I will be taking part in the 2 races I did last year:

1. The Great London Swim on July 2nd. 1 mile around Victoria Docks. http://www.greatswim.org/Events/British-Gas-Great-London-Swim/Default.aspx

2. The London Triathlon Relay on July 30th. 1500m around Victoria Docks. http://www.thelondontriathlon.co.uk/

And adding a significantly longer endurance test:

3. The Hampton Court Swim on July 17th. 2.25 miles from Hampton Court Bridge to Kingston Bridge http://swimseries.humanrace.co.uk/events/hampton-court

The charity I'm doing this in honour of is called One to One Children's Fund, and is very close to my heart. I've been supporting them through fundraising and volunteering for many years, and I'm continually impressed by the work they do, and the impact they have.

One to One Children's Fund runs projects to improve the wellbeing of children affected by conflict, political upheaval, and disease since 1997. They have been running very successful children's programmes since 1997 in Trauma and Reconciliation in Kosovo and the Middle East, Education in the UK, India and South Africa, and HIV/AIDS across the whole of Africa through organising the Paediatric AIDS Treatment for Africa (PATA) conference.

The Charity’s goal is to create centres of excellence and models of best practice from which the Charity, and others, can learn, and replicate.

- To improve the quality of children’s lives by working hand in hand with local communities and volunteers from these communities to create programmes that are driven and championed by local people.

- To provide training and access to professional therapists and care workers who practise alongside community volunteers, pass on their skills and knowledge and ensure the most cost-effective investment of funds and resources.

- To create centres of excellence and models of best practice from which others can learn and replicate.

“One to One Children’s Fund makes maximum use of the donations it receives to produce the greatest possible outcome. Those who give of their time or their money can rest assured that it goes to those for whom it was intended, and translates into real and tangible differences,” Terry Waite CBE
