Perranporth Skydive · 30 July 2010

The club provides football training in Cornwall for people with physical disabilities who otherwise could not play. There is local training as well as 2 teams entering in the national league events. The club also provides equipment which allows those without their own to take part.

Story

Update: Lauren and I both successfully skydived on August the 15th!

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Lauren Roberts and I (Will Lewis) are going to jump out of a plane (hopefully with a parachute) to raise money for the South-West's premier powerchair football team - Celtic Storm.

The skydive will take place from Perranporth Airfield on July 30th 2010, 10,000 feet above Cornwall's beautiful Northern coast, where we will take one step too many out of the plane door and plummet (gracefully) at 125mph towards the ground.

For those who know Lauren, this may not come as such a surprise, as, let's be honest, she's a little bit nuts and is always on the lookout for an excuse to do something crazy. Anyone who knows me however is probably wondering what possible inspiration could there be to risk life and limb. The truth of the matter is Celtic Storm is a fantastic cause which provides those with a disability in Cornwall with an opportunity to experience a competitive sport at a high level whilst also providing a fun environment and a hub for socialising.

Powerchair football is a new sport with rules and standards being adopted internationally. Clubs are now being formed all over the country, guided by the Wheelchair Football Association and the first ever UK league was launched in 2006. Celtic Storm reached the quarter finals that year and now field two teams in the league, one of which is in the Premier Division.

Currently all of the league matches are played in Kettering, and understandably this incurs a number of costs including training, transportation and accommodation which makes playing in the league very expensive. The club relies on charitable donation, so if you would like to show your support, or just like the thought of Lauren and I dropping from the sky, please donate!
