At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. We’ll face it all together – but we can’t do it without you. Visit www.younglivesvscancer.org.uk

Story

In the summer of 2002 I was diagnosed with a Wilms' Tumour- a rare kidney cancer affecting around 70 children a year. I'm not going to go into much detail about it here (feel free to visit this page: www.keepwerking.co.uk/lauren for more information ) but all you need to know is that just over a year later, in August 2003 I finished treatment and was "cancer free".

During the time, CLIC Sargent provided vital and emotional support for my family: making sure they knew what was going on, gave them access to helpful resources (like claiming much needed financial benefits) and giving practical support- like organising a wheelchair.

The reason why I am going to be taking part in the Big Buzz (during which I'll be having my head shaved) is, not only to raise much needed funds for the charity, but to recognise the 10 year milestone of being cancer free. As well as this, I would like to raise awareness of the charity to those who might not know about it- as I'm going to be hosting the event within my school.

My target goal is to raise a minimum of £500 for the charity for their on going help and support to other families.

I would be very grateful if you could make a small donation (even your loose change from the behind the sofa will do nicely).

Thank you for giving your time to read this (please share this link with friends and family to spread the word of what I'll be doing on the 21st of October)
Yours nervously (and slightly terrified-ly)
Lauren.
