Hi all,
I was diagnosed with Behçet’s in 2010, however have been suffering with the symptoms for about 9 years. It has taken many years to reach a diagnoses and I am now finally receiving specific treatment to enable me to lead a normal life.
Although Behçet’s disease is incurable at present, incurable does not mean untreatable. There are several ways in which the immune system can be suppressed to an appropriate level to reduce the extra inflammation, and this suppresses the symptoms.
This is why your donations are so important. Further investment needs to be made for research into genetic reasons for Behçet’s, what causes it and how it can best be tackled. Your donations will also go towards funding specialist centres to which Behçet's patients can go to be seen by the various consultants in one place, thus avoiding many journeys, multiple appointments and receiving the treatment needed.
I having being attending the Behçet’s clinic at Royal London Hospital for just over a year and my health has already made great progress and flare-ups are milder with my personal medical plan and the help of the great team.
What is Behçet’s?
Behçet’s syndrome (sometimes known as Behçet’s disease) is a chronic condition caused by disturbances in the body’s immune system. Although Behçet’s disease can affect people of any age, it most commonly affects those between the ages of 20 and 40. Common symptoms include mouth ulcers, aches and pains, eye inflammation and arthritis.
Skydive
As you probably are already aware I am terrified of heights so I thought there is no better way to demonstrate my commitment to this great cause then facing my fear and doing a skydive!! Bobby has kindly offered to undertake this challenge with me.
So on Sunday 21th August myself and Bobby will be jumping out of a plane. I am not sure if I thought this one through J.
