Grim Challenge · 5 December 2009

We support the growing number of people in and around Milton Keynes affected by a life-limiting illness. We give our patients and their loved ones specialist, personalised care - free of charge. Only 13.8% of our costs are met by ongoing NHS funding, so we’re dependent on your support. Thank you.

I have been forced/cajoled/persuaded and intimidated in to doing an eight mile run.

Those of you who know me will be aware that this is a major challenge for me.  However, it is not just a straight eight-mile run.  It is called the GRIM challenge.  It is eight miles over mud flats, under cargo nets and across streams lakes rivers, seas , oceans etc.

In my opinion this will make it similar to a one thousand mile road run.  Some (those not doing the run) suggest I am exaggerating and it is more like twenty miles.  Personally I am not convinced.

To make matters worse, it will be done in December.  Which idiot designed a run like this in winter?

However, having now signed up I decided to follow the Serco path of CSR.  In short I decided to raise some money for charity.  Given the distance and time of year I may need this particular charity sooner rather than later.

I have chosen Willen Hospice because.  : -

Willen Hospice is a registered charity that provides specialist care for people whose illness no longer responds to curative treatment (also known as specialist palliative care).

They work in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas and are based at a quiet lakeside area close to the City Centre. They provide care for people from the age of 18 years upwards and care focuses on four key areas -

·                               specialist symptom control

·                               emotional support

·                               spiritual support

·                               care for the carers

The services are provided 24 hours a day without any cost to the patient or their families. The support extends beyond the Hospice itself where they care for over 600 patients each year. The Day Hospice, Community Nursing and Social Care teams enable us to reach many other patients and families, friends and carers.

SO PLEASE DIG DEEP (DEEPER THAN THAT) AND HELP ME MAKE THIS RUN WORTH WHILE.
