We offer expert care, guidance and support to people living with a terminal illness

Story

Shell and I decided earlier this year that we wanted to challenge ourselves and tackle Kilimanjaro whilst raising money for Marie Curie. At 5895m/19,340ft and with the inherent risk of altitude sickness we will make our ascent on the 12th October via the Rongai Route to the highest summit in Africa. It is also the world’s highest freestanding mountain and is one of the seven summits.(The Seven Summits are the highest mountains of each of the seven continents)

We are self-funding the whole trip (flights, trek, insurance, clothing and equipment) so every penny you donate goes to Marie Curie

Our total trek time is 7 days with the summit day being around 12-16hours. We will be camping on the mountain (Shell's idea of camping is a static caravan with central heating!) and in sub zero temps as we gain altitude. Without being able to shower and the use of “long drop toilets” that in itself seems a challenge!

We have all lost a loved one and losing my brother Jonathan 3 years ago at 26 inspired us to do our first summit of Snowdon of which our friends, family and work colleagues donated so generously we managed to raise around £1550!. Shell had lost her Uncle to cancer a few years previously and raising some money is just a way of showing our support for a charity that helps others so much.

So Shell and I ask you to please spare whatever you can and help us reach our target of £1500. It really is a tiny amount when Marie Curie spends over £80 million a year on its charitable activities of providing care as well as on research and development.

Thank you
