Chestnut Tree House is the children’s hospice for East Sussex, West Sussex, Brighton and Hove and South East Hampshire, caring for 300 children and young adults from 0-19 years of age every year, both at the hospice and in families’ own homes.

Story

As you all know, we have recently moved to Ifield. Soon after we discovered The Plough Inn, got talking to people, and found out about The Pillars to Plough annual sponsored walk from Brighton (Pillars) to Crawley (Plough Inn). It’s the biggest individual event of the year for Chestnut Tree House with over 100 people involved.

The full Pillars to Plough is a 20 mile walk but they also offer a 10 and 5 mile starting point so everyone can be involved.

Chestnut Tree House is the children’s hospice for East and West Sussex, Brighton and Hove and South East Hampshire and cares for 300 children and young adults from 0-19 years of age with progressive life-shortening conditions. Their goal is to provide the best quality of life for children, young people and their families, and to offer practical, social and spiritual support throughout each child’s life, however short it may be.

Being pretty new to this, we've decided to start at the 10 mile point. Now, some of you may think that this isn't very far, but it is quite a distance once you start walking it. Some of you may even run 10 miles, but walking is actually more difficult. You see, you're walking, so your moving more slowly. It's the Tai Chi method of running, which uses more energy as you move your limbs in a slow manner mile after mile. Running is easy in comparison. Honest.

So try and support us and, more importantly, Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice and the other charities that the Pillars to Plough raise money for, Olive Tree Cancer Support Centre and Springboard Project.

Just think, having two drinks less on a Friday night and donating instead is enough to give you a warm and fuzzy charity feeling, instead of a hangover the next day. Do the same on Saturday night and even better... then there's those cheeky Sunday lunchtime drinks...

Donate and avoid rehab, you know it makes sense...
