Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I will be joining Emily Wild on our 2nd challenge to raise money for Hope for a Child. After having previously trekked through the rugged jungle in Thailand in 2010, we will now find ourselves challenged by the harsh terrain that is the Sahara Desert in November.
The expedition will take us through a forbidding landscape, punctuated by stark peaks, formidable gorges and bright oases. The group will trek across the dry, open land in high temperatures and will camp each night in Bedouin tents and end with a challenging climb up Jebel Lamrakeb. The rest is left to the imagination!
Every penny donated will go towards Hope for a Child's main projects of Village Savings & Loan Associations in Uganda, which have proved to be extremely successful and are helping hundreds of people in the poorest parts across Uganda.
A VSLA is a self-selected group of people who pool their money into a fund of which members can borrow. After a period of time, money can be loaned to people within the group at an agreed interest rate. It is a method of empowering the poorest of the poor to generate income, and in effect, empower a Mother to earn.
The vision is to roll out VSLA groups throughout Uganda and Africa as a whole, but without the help from others like you, sponsoring us crazy trekkers, this is not possible, so please dig deep and donate now.
