You may know that in 2002 I took part in my first London marathon. The reasoning behind this was that 'if I don't do it now then I never will'. I managed to run/jog/fast walk the whole way round the course and finished in 4 hours 13 minutes. I swore as i crossed the line that that was it and my time as a long distance runner was over! Subsequently I've now run 3 London marathons and countless half/ten milers/10ks.
Once again I find myself with a ballot entry place (lucky me) in the Virgin London Marathon on the 25th April (the day after my 35th birthday!).
2010 will give me the opportunity (last time I promise Lisa!) of completing the run in under 4 hours.
The London Marathon offers a unique opportunity to raise lots of money for charities. Choosing a charity to run for is never an easy thing to do as there are so many worthwhile causes out there that do tremendous amount of work.
I have chosen to run for the Rowans Hospice this year. Family will know the reasoning behind this and I hope that you will agree with me that this is a very worthwhile cause. For 7 weeks the staff and volunteers of Rowans Hospice looked after Sheila, making her as comfortable as they could, not only that, they also ensured that visiting friends and family were looked after, even on Christmas day.
The Rowans Hospice is a voluntary independent Hospice, which exists to provide Specialist Palliative Care to patients with life limiting progressive illnesses and to their relatives and carers. The Rowans Hospice exists to enhance the quality of life for those suffering from a life-limiting illness. It supports patients and carers in the belief that each person is entitled to dignity and choice with the best provision of care."
