Leo and Stephen will be competing for media coverage with another significant national event on Friday 29th April when they cycle 60 miles from Edinburgh to St Andrews to raise money for Watoto-a word which in Swahili means 'children'- to the destitute children of Uganda, Watoto means 'hope'. Uganda's children are desperate- there are 2 million orphans due to HIV and war - the highest number per capita in the world.
Watoto is a holistic childcare programme targeted to meeting all the essential needs of orphaned children in Uganda by providing family environments for them in Watoto villages rather than in large institutional orphanages.Its vision is that in providing spiritual, physical, educational and emotional care reaching tens of thousands of children, each one will become a a responsible Christian and productive citizen of Uganda.
All the money raised will go directly to the charity.This summer Leo, Konrad and Sebastian and Aniela will be travelling to Uganda to help in one of the orphanges in Southern Uganda and see how your money is being put to good use.
We hope they don't steal the limelight from the Royals!
