Story
Ok you can stop laughing now!!
yes its true I am going to ride 400km across Vietnam & Cambodia to raise money for Women for Women.
Its not just 1 challenge it is 3.
1, get fit enough to ride 400km!
2, Raise £3.100
3, Ride the 400km over 5 days.
Ok so you cant get fit for me, nor can you ride it for me, However, you can help me raise £3100 through donating.
I was inspired to do this by my friend Rachel Shears who cycled across Jordan and is willing to do it all again for this worthwhile cause. There are many worthy causes out there so why am I undertaking this cahllenge?
Women for Women raises funds, awareness and provides training for research into the causes and treatments of conditions that affect women and their babies including;
Cancer, Miscarriage, Genetic diseases, Stillbirth, Polycystic ovary syndrome, Pre-eclampsia, Infertility, Obstetric cholestasis, Brain injury.
I have been diagnosed with Polycystic ovary syndrome since I was 21.
Polycystic (literally, many cysts) ovary syndrome (PCOS or PCO) is a complex condition that affects the ovaries. The ovaries are polycystic, with many small follicles scattered under the surface of the ovary (usually more than 10 or 15 in each ovary) and almost none in the middle of the ovary. These follicles are all small and immature, and generally do not exceed 10mm in size and rarely, if ever, grow to maturity and ovulate.
In PCOS, these follicles remain immature, never growing to full development or ovulating to produce an egg capable of being fertilised. For the woman, this means that she rarely ovulates (releases an egg) and so is less fertile. In addition, she doesn't have regular periods and may go for many weeks or months without a period
Many women with PCOS are overweight or obese, and have an acquired form of PCOS. They may have excessive body hair and hair loss from the head.
It is not just about me- I have witnessed friends and relatives suffer the pain of struggling to concieve and the agony of losing their babies either through Miscarriage or illness. I have been lucky and have 2 amazing stepdaughters.
Birth should be the most natural, joyous and fulfilling moment of a women’s life. Yet countless families live in the shadow of blighted pregnancy, coming to terms with the loss of a baby, or learning to cope with a child who is seriously ill or with disabilities.
All too often, their misery is further compounded by science offering no answer or explanation for their plight.
With your help and continued support we can find solutions to alleviate and prevent families from suffering unnecessarily, allowing women to look forward to having healthy, happy children.
Every single day, women the length and breadth of the country suffer trauma caused by complications during pregnancy. Women for Women, with the support of all our donors, has already achieved much to alleviate this suffering. And yet there is still so much more that needs to be done, for all concerned.
That’s where you come in. Your help is invaluable in raising the funds we rely on to continue vital and costly research and training programmes that transform lives.
Help me to raise as much money as possible, to help other women and their families.
