Dianne Keith and Lesley Armitage signed up to take part in the 2019 Great Scottish Run in Glasgow. This year is the last year Bank of Scotland will sponsor after a long history of support and the charity of the year for the Group is Mental Health UK so two really great reasons to be part of it!
Lesley, for reasons we won’t get into can no longer run it, however, made a commitment that she would find another 10K and still attempt to raise some funds for such a worthy cause, there can’t be many of us who don’t know someone affected by mental health issues. At short notice the opportunity came up to run the 10K at the annual Bute highland games with her friend Gill at the end of August and Lesley thought what the heck just do it! It involved a car journey, a ferry ride and overnight stay - well she had to celebrate finishing the run with a few drinks! We are delighted to say she completed it, with not enough pre-run training in 1:06:54 seconds, okay 1 hour 7 minutes, let’s not split hairs but she did it and was still able to stand afterwards!
Dianne committed on the 3rd of January to walk 1000 miles this year with the intention of building up to run some of it. On 30th of August she crossed the 1000 mile finish line.....good work Dianne, 4 months ahead of plan and has also managed to run just over 50 miles of that in training for the GSR next month. Dianne is also taking part in the Group’s UK Walk the Talk event in Edinburgh on the 7th of October where she will walk 20 miles, again in support of Mental Health UK.
Dianne will run the GSR on 29th September and our intention is to raise £300 between us, which with the matched funding we receive through the Bank of Scotland Foundation will see us raise £600 for MHUK. If you would like to support us and MHUK please donate.
